Breathtaking, rare, and exquisitely crafted — this antique American Brilliant cut glass rose bowl or biscuit jar is a spectacular marriage of two great decorative arts traditions: the dazzling precision of American Brilliant Period cut glass and the flowing organic beauty of Art Nouveau metalwork. Together they create a piece of extraordinary presence and quality.

The heavy spherical glass body is cut in a magnificent all-over pattern of hobstars, fans, and diamond crosshatching — the cuts deep, sharp, and brilliantly clear, refracting light in every direction. The fourth photo looking down into the open bowl reveals the full glory of the interior cutting, with a large central hobstar surrounded by radiating fan motifs that cover the entire base. The glass has the exceptional weight and clarity of fine American Brilliant Period lead crystal, circa 1880–1915.

The bowl is fitted with a magnificent Art Nouveau pewter or white metal lid with a sculptural floral and leaf handle — a looping branch with fully three-dimensional lily or poppy blossoms and leaves that form the grip. The lid surface is decorated with embossed flowing lily and leaf motifs in the sinuous Art Nouveau style, with a plain polished central reserve. The metal has developed a rich dark patina that beautifully complements the sparkling clarity of the glass.
