A striking antique Chinese brass ritual pouring vessel known as a Coal Silk (Yi 匆) — a form with deep roots in Chinese bronze culture. This piece features a flared bowl with a squared lip, a hollow cylindrical spout handle, and richly cast geometric Taotie mask and Greek key fret pattern decoration encircling the exterior. The interior shows a beautiful dark age patina that speaks to its history and use.
The Yi form was traditionally used in ritual ceremonies for pouring water or wine, and this example carries the aesthetic hallmarks of the ancient Zhou Dynasty bronze tradition. A wonderful collector's piece for lovers of Asian antiques, decorative arts, and ancient bronze forms.
