Vintage Japanese "Oh U" Wind-Up Flocked Scottie Dog - Black Mohair, Glass Eyes, 3.5" Mid-Century Toy
A wonderfully characterful vintage wind-up Scottie dog by "Oh U" — a Japanese mid-century toy maker — and one of the most beloved toy forms of the postwar era. A perennial favorite among collectors of vintage Japanese toys, Scottie dog memorabilia, and mechanical antiques.
The body is covered in dense black flocked mohair over a tin mechanical chassis, giving him a wonderfully tactile, lifelike coat. He has bright glass bead eyes that catch the light beautifully, a cream yarn pompom beard and muzzle, and perky upright ears. Around his neck he wears a jaunty orange chenille collar — a charming period detail. His tail is a straight wire, held jauntily upright in true Scottie fashion. The wind-up key is present on his side and back, and the mechanism is intact.
Marked "Oh U" — a Japanese manufacturer, circa 1950s–1960s. A delightful display piece for a curio cabinet, vintage toy collection, or Scottie dog lover's shelf.
