Vintage Native American Theme Nesting Doll Set of 5 - Hand-Painted Figures with Chief, Brave, Papoose and Owl

Distinctive, charming, and wonderfully unusual — this vintage Native American-themed nesting doll set of 5 is a rare departure from the traditional Russian matryoshka form, with each doll depicting a different hand-painted figure from Native American life. The set nests from the largest figure at approximately 6" tall down to the tiniest solid piece, and every doll tells its own story.

The largest doll depicts a chief or elder woman in a cream deerskin dress with beaded necklace, red and black geometric headband, and long blonde braids — holding a small object in her hands, with a tipi scene painted on her lower body. The second doll shows a young woman in a sage green dress with geometric trim and long black braids, with a papoose on her back visible in the reverse view. The third doll depicts a brave in buckskin with turquoise and red beaded decoration and black hair with a headband. The fourth doll is a young girl in a green feathered dress. The fifth and smallest solid figure is a delightfully painted gray owl — a wonderful surprise at the heart of the set.
